Refrigerator Regret

Bought this refrigerator 6/4/17. First let me say I LOVE the refrigerator part but am not so crazy about the layout of the freezer part. That being said I would NEVER buy this refrigerator again or recommend it. We had two service calls within the first month we had it because the freezer was totally frozen up and we had trouble shutting it. We have had the french doors worked on twice, the freezer 2 times and mid-August (at only 2 months old) we also had to have a major part replaced that cools the refrigerator and freezer and it is broken AGAIN after less than 60 days. What does all this mean....We have lost all of the food in refrigerator 2 times and all of the food in the freezer 7 times in less than 4 months. Each time it takes 2-3 weeks to get a repairman out to check it and then another 1-2 weeks to get a part in and have it replaced. Each time we are out of a refrigerator/freezer for weeks. NOT A HAPPY MOMMA and it takes a lot to ruffle me.

I should have known it was too good to be true. We love the layout and the dual ice makers. Albeit said, this is a faulty machine. The condenser in the refrigerator and the defrost control boards are faulty and Whirlpool knows it yet won't issue a recall. Mine is just over two months old and both ice makers stopped working and the temperature is slowly creeping up in both compartments. Tech was out yesterday and said there is a service bulletin out for this problem but the parts are on back order and doesn't know when they will be in. Whirlpool will take no responsibility for the hundreds of thousands of dollars their consumers have lost in food due to this issue.

Bought this in June 2017. Freezer worked fine refrigerator not so much. Had to get evap cover changed then again, then master technician on the phone to tell me it was the wrong board installed from factory. After 2 months fighting with Whirlpool and finally after 3 service calls they said I could replace it after asking for the manager but its backlogged. So I wanted a refund. Sorry it going to be another 2-4 weeks to get u refund check and after 5 months with this refrigerator not working.So I would not recommend this product.

Less than 5 months running repairman has come 2 times to fix

Bought this refrigerator in May as we remodeled the kitchen, it's been running less than 5 months. I have had the repairman out twice now for factory defects. The first one was one of the compressor fans had an ice build up which caused a very high pitched sound, so annoying we had to shut the fridge off until the repairman could come fix, then he needed to call the company to see what needed to be done, found out it was a factory defect, he installed something that is suppose to stop this problem. Since then the upper compartment is colder and the upper ice maker makes ice faster. Two weeks ago, we came home and the fridge was making an awful banging noise in the lower unit. We are assuming it has to do with the ice maker as it is an intermittent banging and seems associated with the ice maker dumping the ice. When you open the freezer drawer it stops, but sometimes starts up again a few minutes later. Repairman called again. He took the ice maker out, can't find a problem, reinstalled it and the problem continues, he ordered a new ice maker as this seems to be the only way at this time he knows to fix it.Hopefully a new ice maker will stop this annoying problem. We like the fridge overall, but I will never buy another Whirlpool fridge. We will use this one until it totally quits, which I am figuring if we get 5 years out of it we will be lucky.

We selected this model of refrigerator because is had the layout that we wanted and the brand had a decent reputation and recommendation. Nine weeks later and the refrigerator has frozen up 3 times, each time we lost a full load of groceries. The only option the service tech offers is to defrost the compressor and surrounding areas. The first time he wanted us just to unplug it for a day and give it a try. The second time he took a heat gun and dried everything out. It hasn't worked more than 15 days at a time.

***BUYERS BEWARE--POOR DESIGN LEADS TO COOLING PROBLEMS***

Purchased NOV16 Delivered DEC16 First service MAY17 Second service: SEP17 So, as many have already described, we had our first "no ice/no cooling" issue 5 months after delivery. Over several days we noticed that the ice makers (both top and bottom) were slow to make ice, and then it seemed as if the freezer was getting warmer, ice was melting, ice cream was soft etc. Used the online scheduling tool, first available appointment was 5 days out. Tech showed up as scheduled looked at refrigerator and said it was circuit card that needed to be replaced. New card arrived 2 weeks later and Tech explained that there was also a new redesigned part that needed to be installed with the new circuit card to prevent moisture from freezing inside the refrigerator which made the refrigerator and freezer "think" that they were cold. Sure enough when he removed the access panels on the inside back wall of the refrigerator the entire compartment was block of ice. The Tech was very nice and knowledgable and showed us the newly designed part and how it was foam insulated and had an additional moisture seal to prevent condensation from building up on the coils and freezing...made sense to me. Well here we go again, ice maker started slowing down on Friday night , on Saturday afternoon the ice in the lower ice maker bin was melted along with the food in our freezer. Temperature in freezer was 39deg and refrigerator was 50deg. Also of note is the costly water filter. This refrigerator burns through them quickly. We are on our 5th filter since owning and they cost about $40 each. So you may have that to factor that into the cost of ownership as well.

Refrigerator doesn't work

I purchased this refrigerator on March 1st 2017 it worked great till August 3rd 2017 when it stopped getting cold. The fridge was only cooling to 47 degrees. Our service tech was very knowledgeable and replaced a solenoid which fixed the problem for the time being. Fast forward only a month and I'm now waiting for the service tech to come back out since the door ice maker stopped making ice and the fridge is not cooling again. This time it won't get below 50 degrees. I would not recommend this fridge to anyone but I do like whirlpool and the service company we use. If the fridge stops working again I am requesting a new fridge from where I bought it.

Buyer Beware - Same issue - 3rd Replacement part

Extremely unhappy with our purchase. We ultimately went with Whirlpool and this model because we have MANY Whirlpool products in the past, in fact we just built a house and every appliance is Whirlpool. But we have had buyer remorse of this refrigerator. From the start, we noticed a loud fan noise but went away at the time of install. We have had a total of 3 Tech visits with a 4th to come, see the issues below: Visit #1: After about 2 weeks then the front panel stopped responded, would not dispense water or ice, and had issues cooling, the first replacement parts were requested for what was said to be a "defrost" issue. Which took a week for the tech to receive and return to install. Visit #2: The loud fan noise returned and the fridge stopped cooling all together. All of our food was ruined and had to throw everything out. Tech came out advised we needed to unplug the fridge to allow it to defrost, basically everything was frozen up and it was not allowing the fridge regulate the cooling temp. He ordered the part to replace and returned after 10days to install. Visit #3(Current): Same issue as above, however the said part is now on back order and they cannot advise of how soon the part will be available to be shipped to the tech so that he can return to install to hopefully fix the issue(which it did in the last 2 tries). So it's a waiting game all while we are out of a working fridge. However, Whirlpool did offer a $150 dollar Visa card so that I could purchase a smaller fridge to use in the meantime, but could take up to 1 to 2 weeks before we will receive the gift card, Thanks I will take your money! If you are reading this I can only assume that you will read all of the other "BAD" reviews, which ironically all sound like the same issue(Defrost). But when I asked Whirlpool if this is a known issue with this model and said part, Whirlpool advised "No, there isn't. Nor do we see a recall". Hmm that's interesting.

HORRIBLE!

We bought this fridge almost a year ago and have had service come out multiple times. The second time they came out was because the first time they couldn't figure out what was wrong and it turns out our fridge was not defrosting correctly, how can you not figure that out? anyways we had almost $500 worth of food spoil (I had just gone grocery shopping when the problem started) and they would only reimbursed us $300, took them over two weeks to order parts and fix the fridge. 2 months later SAME EXACT PROBLEM! I am pregnant with a toddler and an older child with medical problems and a husband who is military and about to leave, this is not the headache I need right now. Customer service has tried to help but can't do much and they can't get anyone out to see me for a WEEK, a freakin WEEK! This fridge is junk and I really just want them to take it back and give me my money so I can go buy a fridge that will last be more then a few months. I thought Whirlpool was a good brand that could be trusted but they have lost me as a future costumer now.

Purchase refrigerator on Dec 2016, 1st repair in April 2017 I'm already waiting on repair #2 Sept 2017. With the same issue door ice maker stopped producing ice, then the bottom ice maker stopped producing, then the refrigerator started making a horrible screeching noise, after that both refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. Water on my hardwood floor. Lost about $300 in food with two little kids that are in school. Called Sears to see if they can come sooner... No have to wait two weeks to get the parts and tech to come out. Whirlpool website and customer service wasn't helpful. I won't be purchasing anymore Whirlpool appliances again. Rating is ZERO!!!!!!!!

Bought in October 2016 so 6 times had to throw away everything in it 2 service calls later not it leaks water. I will never buy anything from sears again after this they have always been great over the past 19 years with all the house and work items we have bought but can not do anything with this issue. Scheduled another tech for October will have a lawyer on stand by , this is the biggest lemon I have ever bought. Unless you like throwing money in the trash literally I would not buy this.

We purchased this fridge in February 2017. Within 2 months of our purchase, we started having issues with the ice makers not working. We assumed it was because it was requesting we purchase a new filter. We did that. It not help the problem. Since then, the lights inside the fridge stopped working all the time when you opened the doors. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt. Then all our food spoiled and we realized our internal fridge temp was around 50 degrees. Sears has now been out to our house to try to fix the fridge THREE different times. We have been out of a cold fridge for almost 3 months now with Sears refusing to do anything but continue to send more people out (waiting at least another 2 weeks each time). Even though, the fridge has never worked even with their repair men still there.

I bought my fridge May 2017 by July 2017 the top ice maker stopped working, had tech come to replace it 2 weeks later the motherboard as he called it went bad meaning it was 50 degrees in the fridge so that was replaced also July 2017, now we are September 2017 and are back to the ice maker stopped working so once again I will be calling the technician to fix my $4000.00 refrigerator isn't their a lemon law Im tired of throwing good food out do to a manufacture defect . A Fair Mixed Review

I bought this refrigerator May 2017. Similar to other customers, I had cooling and ice production problems within the first month of purchasing. It took two times of a service person coming to the house to fix the problem. The first service man blamed the problem on us, saying that we did not fully close the freezer door and left. Problem still persisted with close monitoring. We analyzed the problem our selves and called back with the solution so the repair person can have the part when he arrived. The repair was made and we have been problem free for the last couple of months. Our self-diagnosed problem was that the freezer door was not sealing properly. The second repairman replaced the seal in about an hour and a half and we have been good since. I do like the layout and space of the fridge and hope that it continues to work properly. But just in case, I may go back and purchase the extended warranty. I must also note that Whirlpool call-in center seems to employ a bunch of unsympathetic customer service representatives. I can't refer to a friend because I would feel responsible if something happened after I gave my recommendation. I would have to own the fridge at least a year without any further problem before I could consider recommending it.

With the cost of this refrigerator and with the reputation of both Whirlpool and Sears I thought I had a winner. WRONG. 2 months after purchasing this refrigerator, it stopped making ice. The tech said we left the door open too long. Seriously? Then he said the condenser had dust on it. I don't think so. Here it is a week later and again, no ice. So - what's going to be the scoop this time Whirlpool? The stars are aligned wrong? The wrong phase of the moon? My husband said we should return the refrigerator. Trust me - if we could I would in a heartbeat. The Samsung without ice and water was doing a much better job.

I'm glad I am not alone in this... We purchased this unit 5 months ago, and since it has had countless issues with the compressor freezing- ruining all of our food and leaving us resorting to using a tailgating cooler to keep basics cold until we can get a tech out to make repairs. The average time span to schedule a tech to come out through Whirlpool is 4 business days, then they must order the defective part (which is typically on backorder since this is a common issue with this unit), then they must reschedule the work. Be prepared to go through this 2-3 week cycle of repair each month. ;ve kept my refrigerated items cold in a cooler for more days than I have been able to use my $3k+ refrigerator. This is the third time we've had to completely toss all of our food, take time off work to have technicians come out to repair the unit, take time off work to have them install the part, etc. At this point, I have spent more money throwing out spoiled food and taking time off of work than I spent on the refrigerator. I am buying a cheap refrigerator for my garage just to move food to each month when this Whirlpool goes down. The tech who has repaired this refrigerator for us said he repairs this same model 2-3 times/week and many of those are on the 5-6 repair for this same compressor issue. Be prepared for the headache, the expense and the frustration if you buy this refrigerator!

I wish there was a way to leave zero stars. We purchased this unit new in March of 2017. Within a month both ice makers ice production decreased dramatically. After a month of going back and forth with Whirlpool they finally got an appointment to get it looked at. Tech said it needed new ice makers. While waiting for new ice makers the unit started not cooling. Would only hold around 50 degrees. I was told it was a control board issue and the part was on back order. Board finally arrived, tech put it in and still having same cooling issues. Tech replaced top ice maker at the same time. Ice maker worked for about 2 days, now no longer makes ice. This unit is complete junk.

Very Disappointed

This is literally the first product review I have ever written, but this is the most stressful and disappointing product I have ever purchased. Purchased in January 2017, but didn't have it delivered until our house was finished being built in February 2017. Shortly before Easter, the door ice maker stopped producing ice, then the bottom ice maker stopped producing ice and then the refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. A repairman was sent out and replaced a part. The unit worked fine until late June and the same thing started happening all over again in the exact order. Ice maker in door stopped producing ice, then the bottom ice maker quit and then the refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. Another repairman was sent out and he replaced the entire control panel and assured us this would fix the problem. Well, it didn't. Here we are again, approximately 2 months after the 2nd repair and the ice makers have quit once again. I have had to take multiple days off work for the service calls and then again for the actual repairs. I have literally lost almost $600 in food in the past 6 months and unfortunately it looks like that amount is going to be increasing. Hopefully this product will be deemed a "lemon" and pulled from production, especially after reading all the other reviews. As expensive as this unit is, customers shouldn't be expected to jump through all these hoops when there is a legitimate, chronic problem. All I want is what I paid for, a product that works correctly.

Major Cooling Problem-DO NOT BUY

Not even a year old and have lost 2 full loads of food. When I bought it, store had to replace first one within a week for no cooling at all and this one is just as bad. Has a problem with Frig section getting warm. Apparently, the coils freeze up and stop cooling. Then the inside temps start rising and you lose all your food. Repair tech just pulls back cover and thaws it out with a heat gun then calls it fixed. What good is having a Frig that constantly freezes up and loses your food. This was my first Whirlpool frig and probably my last. Whirlpool needs to find a permanent fix and offer their customers a quality product.

I bought this refrig 15months ago. I have had the repair guy out 4 times. 3 times it stop cooling and the cooling coils froze up. Now the ice maker broke, It has been fixed. I am working with Whirlpool to replace the frig. If they stand behind product and replace. I may buy another whirlpool product. Otherwise, no more whirlpool for me

Well look at the reviews would you buy it. Same problem, multiple visits from repair man, Whirlpool told him to move a sensor that was placed in wrong location at manufacturing. Now the ice maker not working. These reviews tell the tell. Whirlpool, pull this refrig off the market...I had to give it one star to submit review

Lets see....where do I start? Well I bought the fridge in May and was completely down running a temp of 55 degrees when it was set at 36. Whirlpool was contacted and was told the part was back ordered for an unknown amount of time. after approximately one month the parts finally came in and the fridge was fixed.... But that's not where the story ends. Now less than a month after being fixed the ice makers are not producing ice. So, here I go again waiting for my second repair next week. Whirlpool told me after my last repair they were going to send me a $75 dollar gift card and extend my one year warranty an additional month. Shockingly I haven't seen the gift card and my account shows my warranty is still only one year. I attempted to have it replaced by Sears but they refused because it was over 30 days from the purchase. I even attempted to call my credit card and see if they would refund me the credit and help... but in the end I'm stuck with this pile of junk and will apparently endure many more repairs based on other peoples's complaints. Thanks Whirlpool for no help and where exactly is your embarrassing trinket of a $75 dollar gift card??

DEFECTIVE DESIGN!

Ice makers went out in June of 2017. While waiting for ice makers to get fixed for two weeks and the refrigerator making a horrible screeching noise fridge died. The refrigerator went out the 4th of July weekend and we lost all of our food for the holiday. When I called into customer service they said they didn't know what could be wrong. I looked at the repair mans clip board and it basically explained what the problem was. After waiting on parts for 2 weeks He repaired the fridge. Ice makers worked again. So I looked on whirlpools website and review after review people are have Are having the same problem! Now a couple days before Labor Day weekend ice makers quit...... this obviously is Defective and should be recalled. I want my money back! They have nothing besides this unit for a replacement and I don't want another of the same. With the purchase of the fridge I also bought a cabrio washer and dryer. Dryer works have had nothing but trouble with the washer. I will never buy whirlpool again.

If I could choose no stars to rate this thing I would. I plugged this "fridge" (although I would not call this item a fridge as it does not function as one) in the wall in May, it stopped working in July. Not only did I lose 2 large batches of food, but because it no longer works, there is water leaking from the bottom of the unit; it has completely destroyed my brand new wood floors:( I was told by Whirlpool to use my home owners insurance to replace the damaged floors! I have had 5 service calls, 3 changed parts (one of which arrived to my home BROKEN and I had to wait another week for a new one)...mind you that the water is not from the water line, but, according to the appliance service, it is condensation that is not correctly being evaporated (what???) so now I have a dehumidifier in the middle of my kitchen to help with the non-evaporated condensation. The last part that was changed not only did not fix the problem, but now the freezer doesnt work!! I have 2 small children and NO fridge for almost 2 months! I paid a decent amount of money for this thing and now am stuck in a battle between Whirlpool and the appliance service company THEY sent to me. Whirlpool DOES NOT CARE that I dont have a working fridge, in fact I was specifically told by a supervisor that "the warantee is not for the fridge, just the parts"...are you kidding me? I would never buy another appliance from this company and if the unit wasnt so big (we had to remove our sliding doors to get it in the house) I would roll it outside onto the curb next to the garbage.

I bought this refrigerator in May 2017. It worked well for a week. I have had my appliance store trying to help. It has not worked the ENTIRE month of August. I had the repair gentleman over today. He recommends a new refrigerator. However, when he calls the calls the tech support line, they inform him of parts to order for repair. While talking to Whirlpool myself, the customer service representative informs me that Whirlpool has a repair warranty not a replacement warranty. Clearly I have bought a lemon! I have also been informed that my replacement parts are on back order!!!! Extremely frustrated & unhappy!!!!! Would definitely NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Had frig installed 6/24/17. 2 weeks later (7/7/17) frig was 50 degrees but freezer and ice makers still worked. Repaired 7/13, said the back had frozen up not allowing fan to cool. 7/24/17 50 degrees again, lost another refrigerator full of food. 7/29/17 replacement frig installed. Same model. 8/23/17 at 50 degrees again, freezers and ice still working. Making the same horrible fan noise the other one did. They can't come out to fix it until 9/1/17. I have 4 kids and living out of a dorm frig and coolers when I've purchased a new frig is SO FRUSTRATING! Not to mention all the food we've lost. Love the ice and water dispenser on this frig. Fastest water fill in a door I've ever had and the ice shape is wonderful. Sad I'll probably have to switch brands to get the size I want.

STOPPED COOLING!!

We purchased in late March, it was delivered to our new house in mid April. We are now going on our 3rd week with it registering temperatures in the 50s-60s due to waiting for a "new panel" to hopefully help fix the issue. After living out of a cooler for over a week, had to buy a small dorm fridge just to keep milk, etc for the kids. Had we known there was an issue such as this, we wouldn't have spent so much on a piece of junk!

First visit tech told me there was a sensor that needed to be relocated. That was two weeks ago. This unit started to have problems in July, by first not making ice in the upper maker. Thought I was splurging on a good refrigerator that would last me for years to come. LESS than 6 months and the refrigerator stopped cooling. Set up service call online and 2 days later tech came to the house and said it was a known issue with the placement of the internal thermostat and moved and replaced it. Told me to turn the unit off overnight to let it defrost the ice buildup in the back of the refrigerator (which required me to move everything out of the freezer too) and turn it back on in the morning. Followed these instructions and turned it back on. Unit cooled to 38 degrees and held the temperature for 2 days. Then started creeping back up. 4 days later back to 52 degrees! Another service call and different technician now says it is the evaporator cover and it needs to be ordered. Won't be in for 4 days. Now I have to miss work 3 times in 2 weeks to get this hunk of junk fixed. So very disappointed. I am not confident this unit will ever work correctly after reading all of these reviews. Everyone having the same problem. WHATS UP WHIRLPOOL?!?!?!? Do you have any intentions of making this right for your customers?????

Regretting Purchase Now

Worked great for 4 months or so. Then the ice production became slow or non-existent. Now refrigerator is not cooling and I am looking at almost two weeks before I can get the part installed. There is a flaw in the design if every single poor review mentions the exact same symptoms. Don't be fooled by the good reviews....notice they are almost all from of a "Sweepstakes Entry" and were probably made while the unit was brand new and still working.

I previously gave this refrigerator a 5 because I love the design, however, I have had this refrigerator for less than a year and had 4 service calls for the same problem (doesn't keep anything cold, builds up ice in back, and doesn't actually make any ice)! I am waiting for a replacement, but I don't even think I want a Whirlpool at this point!

So I am in the same boat as many others. 4 months in quit making ice 45+ degree refer temps. Replaced frozen evap unit works a few months now same problems again. Lemmon Lemmon for sure. Now it will soon be out of warranty and I'll be stuck paying the repair bill in this expensive low performing short lasting boat anchor. They need to give anyone who purchased these their money back so they can buy a unit that will last more than a few months and more like several years. I have always purchased whirlpool products and never seen any issues. Very disappointed and upset over this unit. They need to stop selling this one.
