had this dryer for 18 months. it just quit. of course, it's just out of warranty. paid $342 for new "board", only to be told it still doesn't work. have to get a new dryer. so i'm out over $1000. and have to get a new dryer. i'm forced to now, because this is a matched pair, but i'll never buy samsung again.

i loved this dryer for 5 years... but then one day it just made a grinding noise and shut off , with no error code... called a repairman (very few in my area work on samsung) and he said it would cost about $500 to replace the motor.. that was in november... all my appliances (washer/dryer/stove-oven/ fridge/ microwave and dishwasher are samsung) and i still haven't replaced the dryer because i can't justify $900 for a dryer to last 5 years...

bought new at lowe's 12 months ago. 2 person household, maybe a load or two a week. computer failed in first 5 months, samsung replaced part under warranty. same part failed 7 months later, samsung will replace it under warranty. when this part fails again (no doubt it will) after the warranty expires, i was told to call and they would "try" to accommodate me with a replacement. nothing in writing. no extended warranty for a replacement product. they would rather pay several hundred dollars to get techs to replace the same part over and over, run out your warranty, and then leave you with the bill.
when this part breaks again and i have to buy a new dryer, you can be sure i'll be shopping a different brand.

there are barely enough words to describe the level of frustration, disappointment and time wasted on buying this dryer. after having a visit to fix the dryer - making a horrendous noise, which apparently is common - you would think that you would be left with a normal working dryer. clearly not. i have never had to untangle bedding as often as i need to with this dryer - to the point of over a 60 minute cycle, having to need to untangle sheets 10 times. who has that kind of time to waste. i know how to put sheets in a dryer to prevent tangling - there is something seriously wrong with this dryer!

we got this dryer 6 years ago. dryer was good for 4 years, then began having problems.
in the last 2 years:
- grinding. replaced belt, tensioner, and wheels. better, but it's starting to sound rough again.
- fail to heat. replaced failed fuse.
- fail to heat. replaced failed fuse and high limit thermostat.
- fail to heat. heating element was destroyed. replaced heating element, housing, fuse and thermostat (again).
- today it failed to heat again. i'll find what has failed, and also replace the thermistor on the blower housing, as i haven't done that yet.
this dryer has been a total nightmare, and we've spent a ton on oem parts. infuriating that we replaced a working 30 year old dryer for this "upgrade" that can't stay running. i will never buy another samsung appliance.

i bought this unit 4 years ago, i'm a single guy, i don't do a ton of laundry, yet i've had various electrical elements burn out 3 times since buying it (high limit fuse as well as heating element). having a look at consumer reports verified my suspicions that samsung has serious reliability issues. i'm replacing my 4 year old unit with a new dryer from another brand now.

i've had the dryer for 4 months and it's worked less than 2. servicequick and samsung care suck. i've been trying to get the dryer repaired for weeks. they asked if my dryer was stacked and i said yes. they sent one tech who left, having done nothing, because he said he couldn't do it alone. i had to wait another 10 days. when the 2 techs came, 1 tech left because they didn't need 2. the tech that stayed kept calling to ask for help identifying parts & their function! after they left, the dryer had a new issue. i called for service and specifically stated that the same techs were not to return. they sent the same techs. they left after doing nothing again. i am waiting another week for another guess at what's wrong. complete fail as product, but an even bigger failure for customer service.

normally i would have given this a high rating but the preset cycles make it impossible to dry things on a low setting using sensor dry. no wool cycle on the 5400.

If I'd written this review a month ago, I would have given 4 stars, but since then the dryer started making loud grinding noise of metal on metal and I will have to pay a large bill for out of warranty service. A previous Kenmore dryer didn't develop any problems for over 10 years and, when it did, I was able to replace the belt and a switch myself. This Samsung is much more complicated and I didn't dare tackle it myself.

I bought this in 2016. A few months back it stopped working. After a repair it worked for a few months. Now I have a cracked drum. Called Samsung and they directed me to a local repair facility. Very frustrating to have this experience from a reputed brand like Samsung

Bought this dryer and the matching washer almost a couple weeks ago and it works great!!! Doesnt even have to go a full cycle to dry and I love the drum light. My last washer and dryer was Samsung so I stand by its products. Purchased both at Lowes for $200 less than here.

This is the worst appliance ever. Bed linens get rolled into a tight ball, leaving the center wet while the outside is dry. No amount of rearranging or use of "dryer balls" makes a difference. This never happened with my old Maytag.

Purchased this dryer from Sears for $799 and after 39 months of use, in a 3-person single family home, I'm being told by our Sears technician the motor has failed! Conveniently enough…the extra warranty, I paid an additional amount for, ran out 3 months ago! Completely unacceptable!! I've owned many Samsung products through the years however, this was my first purchase of this kind and I must say I am completely dissatisfied! Definitely expected this product to last much longer for the price I paid!! I'm told the repair will now cost me over $500, which is close to the price of a new machine! I certainly cannot afford this! My last dryer was a Kenmore and it lasted nearly 15 years. Feeling extremely frustrated and highly disappointed in Samsung!!

I bought this dryer in October 2016 as an open-box item in excellent condition. It has always dried the clothes effectively, but was always noisy. In the last few months, it started making an additional clunking noise which I first thought was due to an imbalance of heavier items. A few weeks ago, I noticed a few large cracks in the drum of the dryer. When I contacted Samsung, they told me that someone would contact me about repairing it, but nothing would be covered because it was past the warranty period. I have never heard of a dryer drum cracking and I would certainly expect a much better performance from a dryer of this price from a supposedly reputable company. This appears to be a substandard product if it only lasts 2 years or less with normal or light household use.

The dryer is a good quality appliance that does a great job of drying clothes.
The filter is a pain as it is hard to get in and out and opening it requires a little help from a screw driver. Furthermore, if you reach down into the area under the filter to clean there the trapdoor snaps your fingers so you definitely need two hands - one to clean underneath and one to hold down the hinged door.
The filter is almost a deal breaker, annoying and cumbersome.
Because the dryer does the job so well and has so many good options I gave this 4 stars. The filter just gets 1.

For the price we bought this for it works very well. Wife set it up for her personal setting with just a push of the button. So now even I can do the drying part of the laundry and not have to worry about shrinking the cloths like I did when we first got married.
